Lonely Latte

The rain comes down in sheets of grey,
To wash the afternoon away.
I chose the table near the wall,
Where I can sit and watch them all.

Verse 2

My coffee cup is white and stout,
To keep the lonely feeling out.
I hold it with a steady hand,
A castaway in coffee land.

Chorus

Sat on my own with my phone and my coffee
Waiting to see who come through the door
Thinking of the people who surround me
Taking time to reflect in a coffee store
Verse 3

I wonder if they’ll turn my way,
And have a pleasant thing to say.
Perhaps they’ll see I’m all alone,
And put away their mobile phone.

Verse 4

But people buy their drinks and go,
A fast and steady human flow.
Or sit in pairs with heads bent low,
In private worlds I’ll never know.

Chorus

Sat on my own with my phone and my coffee
Waiting to see who come through the door
Thinking of the people who surround me
Taking time to reflect in a coffee store
