When I was young, I had visions of life
Sun on my face and no thought of the strife
A pocket of dreams and a wallet of air
But the world was wide open and life was fair

I could run through the night, chase the dawn if I pleased
Climb every hill with relative ease
The worries I have now were not even there
I was young independent and I didn’t care

Broke and free with no responsibility
The passage of time waits for nobody

Back then the road never looked too long
Cheap boozy nights and a half-sung song
Sleeping on couches, laughing at fate
Tomorrow was something that just couldn’t wait

Now there’s a bit of money safe in the bank
A house that’s warm for that I thank
But the knees are aching, the doctor knows my name
The stairs feel steeper age is to blame

You’re not young anymore it’s a tragedy
A slower you is your destiny

So I look at the clock and the message it sends
And I drink to the boy that I once was back then
Theres no need to work or worry about the dough
Just get up and see how life goes.

the years roll along and the balance is wrong
You’ve money at last but your body has gone
When you’re young you’ve got no money that’s saved
When you’re older you’ve got money but not the days

Broke and free with no responsibility
The passage of time waits for nobody
